Virtual Reality Training System “Dike Defense”
For the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), SZENARIS has developed a virtual reality simulation with which various dike damage situations can be simulated as realistically as possible in real time. The simulation is to be used to train the so-called dike runners. They examine the virtual dike section for various damages in a coordinated manner and mark and document them. The damages can be set virtually by the training personnel beforehand.
The virtual dike was realized by SZENARIS with Unity3D and becomes “walkable” with the help of the HTC VivePro virtual reality glasses. Since the dike walkers consist of teams of two people, two learners can also act simultaneously in the simulation. The training personnel can position various damages such as slides, water leaks or cracks as well as simulate different weather conditions and flood levels and also monitor what is happening in the simulation from an instructor’s station.
