A pontoon boat system for civil defense and disaster control was developed with the cooperation of SZENARIS. The multifunctional platform can be used individually as a workboat or transport boat, or coupled to be used as a transport platform or floating bridge. The system features a remotely controllable floating drone with on-board cameras, laser and sonar. This enables (semi-)autonomous navigation in flooded and unmapped areas.

SZENARIS developed a virtual reality visualization system for prototype design in the first phase of the project. Various configurations were then tested in virtual reality, propulsions were simulated, and floating behavior and handling were analyzed. In the further course, SZENARIS developed a virtual reality training system so that emergency forces can learn the safe use of the PoBo in a competence-oriented manner. The behavior of the PoBo system as well as the flow influences are simulated in a physically correct manner in order to enable a training experience that is as realistic as possible and to facilitate the transfer of what has been learned to reality.
